The LGBT community worldwide is one community. As LGBT members and straight allies in the Kansas City metro, we stand in support of our Orlando brothers and sisters. There are several ways we can help:

  • Equality Florida, the state’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for the victims and families of the horrific shooting at Orlando’s Pulse Nightclub. Please donate if you are able and share this page far and wide:
  • You can check with the Community Blood Center or your local blood bank to donate blood for those wounded.
  • The Kansas City Anti-Violence Project and the LIKEME Lighthouse, through Mayor Sly James’ office, have organized a vigil tonight at 6:30 at the Barney Allis Plaza (downtown by the convention center).
  • Also, Mayor James is encouraging everyone in Kansas City to wear rainbow colors on Monday out of respect for the Orlando victims.
